The Grind:
Waketoberfest 2005

Lake Austin, Texas
October 15, 2005

Who said you had to go to Florida for a good ride and rail session in October? It happened this past weekend in Austin, Texas. Riders enjoyed temperatures in the high 80s for the first "Under360 Grind - Pool Gap contest". The Grind contest was held during 360 Wakeboard Club's Waketoberfest and rounded out the weekend nicely.

With an estimated 3000 people on-hand, The Grind started in the late afternoon with thirty riders from Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Montana, California, and Florida competing in 2 divisions (wakeboard and wakeskate) for over $2500 in cash and prizes, provided by Boardstop / Boardflix, CWB Board Co., Red Bull, No Fear, The Ski Dock of Austin, Texas Ski Ranch, Wake Culture Clothing, We Ain’t Pros Productions, John Langford Photography, and Swami Studios.

The entire event was judged by the riders. During the wakeboard prelims each rider voted on the best 2 riders in the opposing heats. The finals saw local pro Gabe Lucas finish off Earl Ball and Tom Fooshee to run away with the victory, and the $500 "Boardstop First Place Prize for Wakeboard" with his gap to backlip and gap to backside 360 off the a-frame.

Bret Little showed us why he deserved to take home the $500 "Boardflix First Place Prize for Skate" with a frontside 360 on the flatbar and . To claim his victory Bret had to get by Tom Fooshee with his frontside to backside boardslide on the flatbar, and Gabe Lucas, who was the only skater to successfully slide the entire a-frame.

Bret Little and Josh Wright each took home a wakeboard from CWB Board Co. for best fall. Bret and Josh had very similar falls. Josh had a nasty looking fall during the finals. Bret's fall actual came during the testing of the sliders, where he broke through a 2x4 and 4x4 using his body. Luckily neither was injured.

"We could not be happier with the way the event turned out. This was the first event of its kind in Austin and we look forward to setting up more events like this in the future", said Jeff Alford of Under360. "We really appreciate the sponsors for stepping up and all the people that helped with the event."
